In case you didn’t know, my name is Simon Wosko. This site, wosko.us, is my personal blog built to provide a central portal into my life and work. I previously maintained simonwosko.com as a repository for some random pictures, information and my resume. I have since retired simonwosko.com in favor of the more familiar blog-based experience, full of fresh content, random musings, some pictures and a new brand – wosko.us. Have you ever come across a personal entry in Wikipedia and wondered “what would my biography look like?”. Would it read like a well written non-fiction novel or as though your life exploded on the page? Can my life be summarized in a WikiPedia page? Upon pondering this very thing, I realized the easiest way to express “about” myself and this site was through a tag cloud.

Work

My professional adult career began as many other developer’s have before me - entry level programmer working on rudimentary code modifications and enhancements. I started my IT career with QVC, Inc., a retail first, technology second, shop. I started working within their CMS system responsible for supporting their now-billion dollar website. As my career matured, so to did my passion and thirst for new technology. I am currently working as a Computer Consultant with CIBER, Inc., based in the Philadelphia area. My specialty is web development. I enjoy and am passionate about developing for the web. I have picked up many other skills over the years, however, none which I enjoy as much as building web sites. To me it doesn’t matter which language it’s written in, each one has it’s own strength and of course weakness. Don’t get me wrong, I do also enjoy building small programs to ease my routine computer tasks, such as synchronizing my music library with iTunes and back-up. I have always found myself toying with any technology I can get my hands on. Even though I work professionally in a Microsoft environment, I often find myself working with open source and web tools with any personal work I do (they’re just more fun). Not knowing a technology is what really fuels my desire and passion for it. I find the first hello world in a new programming language very satisfying. It says, yes I can. Hello world, here me roar.

Life

My wife Stephanie and I spend the majority of our time with the family, consisting of one other member, our fantastically awesome son Kieran Markley (born July 2006). We both work full-time, so we try to do as many things possible with the time we do have together. We are always out and about at events, carnivals, parks, restaurants, etc. We love providing for him a fun environment to grow up in.

Play

All work, no play make Homer go crazy. It may seem strange to many folks out there, but in my spare time I really do enjoy building web sites. I love it. It’s challenging, rewarding and fun all in one package. When not tinkering with sites and other programs to ease my electronic life, I also spend time golfing, bowling, vegging in front of a few sitcoms and reality shows, and of course catching up on the latest technology news (can’t beat techcrunch for that).
